watervole: (Morris dancing)

The world is full of optimists...

I just got a phone call that I was half expecting.

Last night at practice for Quayside Cloggies, the bagman announced that he'd had a request for a performance at midday on Friday at a language school.  We laughed and he said he was turning that one down.

Most morris dancers have day jobs.  Daytime bookings during the week are nearly impossible, and never at short notice.

I made a mental bet with myself.

Sure enough, the language school phoned Anonymous Morris this afternoon.

We can't do it either, for the same reasons, but I suggested maypole dancing as an alternative as I'm free during the day and I can often find a musician as well (and I have recorded music if I can't).

They liked the idea, so I'll be doing maypole dancing this Friday (and Thursday and Monday at other venues that have already booked maypole for the Jubliee.)  I hope my voice holds out...
