Whatever happened to Sam Carter?

I used to really love Stargate

I bought all the CDs for the first five seasons. I was a happy Carter/O'Neill shipper, but not as a big deal of any kind. I mostly enjoyed it as an ensemble show and liked all the characters. Sam was enjoyable as one of the few really good female leads in any show. She wore uniform! (I get fed up of women who are only able to fight in black leather and high-heels)

Sadly, her character has become less and less interesting and is now only there when a bit of scientific gobbledegook is needed. (and the science is getting to really suck, as opposed to being just mildly poor)

It's a sad day when a Carter fan is praying for Claudia Black to return and replace her. The show actually came to life for a while when Claudia was there at the start of the season (and I'm not a particular fan of Farscape)

I think the only reason I'm still watching is to see if they finally allow Carter and O'Neill to get married. There's no reason in canon why they can't, seeing as O'Neill is no longer her commanding officer.

Please, powers that be, give me a nice wedding to keep me happy, and then give me Claudia Black to make the show enjoyable again.

(They even managed to pretty well wreck my beloved Harry Maybourne. His last episode was weak and out of character and well over a season ago in any case. I doubt he'll be back again, and if he is, I'm not sure if it will be a good thing or a bad thing...)

I'm confused with ranks. Carter and Mitchell are now, according to this week's episode, both lieutenant colonel, which explains why Mitchell was able to give her orders last week as he is team, leader. But, wasn't Carter once a major, and doesn't that outrank lietanant colonel, and when did she get demoted? Confused.

Er, I thought Colonel was above Major?

It goes, I think:
- Lieutenant
- Captain
- Major
- Lieutenant-Colonel
- Colonel
- General (with varying numbers of stars, the more stars the higher)

The only military ranks I know are major and lieutenant colonel, because my father held them during the war. And his final rank was Lt-Col, so I think we can take it that's senior, in the British army at least.

Lietenant colonel is a higher rank than major. (It's the bottom level of colonel and colonel outranks major)
The only ranks I actually know are the USAF ones. Sad, isn't it. I can even tell you the rank insignia for them!

Well, I gave up on Stargate at the end of Season Five, as you know...

Well, you know I never liked the character... but seriously - and hopefully without that bias - the show's been going for what, 9 years? Methinks it could be a serious case of Hardening of the Dramatic Arteries on the part of all concerned.

I think all shows should be allowd a max of five seasons. People run out of new ideas. Sure, you get the occasional really good episode, but the dross starts to drown them.

Except for a show like Doctor Who, where at least they can regenerate the show as well as the main character...

Yes, that regenerates the show as well as the character. It's interesting that the two Farsacpe actors made the dying Stargate dynamic much better.

Seven seasons worked very well for DS9 (don't know about the other Treks, never got into them) but nine, going on ten does seem to be pushing it.
But then I would watch Daniel till the cows come home so what do I know?
Much more enjoying Sam in season nine with out the massive albatross of her crush on her boss weighing her down and turning her into a fluttery doe eyed girly (ick, spit, hack).

FF, not sure if this tag will work, let's see...
