supersoaker fight in quarry
Jul. 23rd, 2004 10:16 amOur local Blake's 7 group is having our annual supersoaker fight in Winspit
quarry on Sat 31st July. We've invited the Hitchikers fans to come and get
trashed...
If anyone wants to come and join in on either side (because I think
dougs may be a bit outnumbered otherwise, then feel free. You can help
him fight back (he may have someone to help him, but I gather it depends on
transport), or you can help the B7 fans saturate him with water - evil grin.
We meet at Wareham station in Dorset at 12 noon (there's a car park there, so
train travellers can be picked up by those arriving by car) and then car share
to Winspit quarry - imortalised by having an episode of both Blake's 7, 'Games',
and of Dr Who (I forgot which one, but it's one of the incarnations of
the planet Skarro) filmed there.
All you need is a supersoaker, a water container or three (large empty squash
bottles are quite handy if you don't have anything fancy), footwear suitable for
running around caves in the dark, and a dry shirt to change into. (A towel may
come in handy, and some people even bring a change of trousers...)
It's a beautiful site by the sea. The caves are great tactically as there are
pillars and places to ambush from. It's very dark at the back and we ban the
use of torches.
We'll head back to either my place or a friend in Swanage afterwards. If we go
back to my place, then we'll return rail travellers to Poole station (it's on
the same line as Wareham and will be okay if you have a return to Wareham).
We're also happy to supply sleeping bags to anyone wanting to stop overnight if
you want to gossip fannish stuff until late. Anyone wanting to filk will be
encouraged... (I think my voice may actually be upto it by then - touch wood)
We've done this every August for around a decade - the sun nearly always shines
and it's always fantastic fun in some beautiful countryside.
Do let me know if you're coming, and how you plan to arrive, as I need to make
sure there's enough cars to transport those arriving by rail.
