The curse of the school holidays
Jul. 27th, 2004 02:55 pmThe local library has been my refuge these last few weeks. A quiet place where I can do research, fall in love once more with old SF classics and forget about things.
Sadly, the school holidays have now begun and the computers are occupied by an endless stream of children playing computer games. Not only does it mean I have to wait ages to get a machine, it also means I have to be careful what parts of the Web I access. There's a story I'm thinking of after I had an idea last night, and there's no way I can look for sites dealing with the long-term psychological effects of child abuse when there's loads of children around. Neither can I read all I want to on LJ. People are pretty good with cut tags as a rule, but it tends to vary a lot and you never know what's going to come up.
It isn't even quiet now. It was really lovely here when the place was quiet and empty - I could unwind. I still can to some extent, but it isn't as easy. I miss the quiet focus of doing research.
