Evil bastards rule!
Dec. 27th, 2004 02:24 pmJust spend an hilarious afternoon and evening with
dougs and
scarlatti.
We started with Monopoly. Our family play vicious Monopoly and Dougs is obviously familiar with the principle. As he explained to Scarlatti "Judith is an evil bastard who is out to get you. Richard is an evil bastard. Henry is an evil bastard who is out to get you. I am an evil bastard."
I can only applaud his logic - grin. We play Monopoly by the rules. Once you strip out all the funny little house rules that people have developed over the years, it is a truely evil game - and I love it.
I'm pleased to report that Scarlatti came in second.
Who won? What kind of a question is that? The rest of my family learnt from me... (Though I admit I was lucky. Henry and Dougs weren't terribly blessed in the cards they had.)
I got Dougs and Scarlatti to read my latest Maybourne story (after inflicting an apropriate Stargate episode on them first). Trust Dougs to point out the difficulties of handling a woman's tights when she's wearing a skirt! (I shall have to make an edit to that part)
After tea, we played 'Kink'. Those who were at
connotations will know
the game... (It's a card game with a distant resemblence to 'Happy Families')
Henry demonstrated what he has always claimed, namely that a slash-writing
parent has left him completely immune to and totally unembarassable by any kind
of sexual discussion. He can ask for a pair of nipple clamps with a totally
straight face.
Dougs lost. Don't ask me how...
We moved onto 'Apples to Apples' and then to 'Charades'. Charades is one of my favourite games as it can be hysterically funny. I think the funniest one was Dougs struggling to mime 'Monty Python's Flying Circus'. I think it took around ten minutes before we got that one, whereas for some reason I got 'Oklahoma' straight off. Musical, one word - Oklahoma!
Most of the quotes were from The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. All of us had that particular interest in common.
I was sorry to see them go, but I'll see them both again at
redemption_con as Scarlatti has just signed up. Yeah!
I hope they have a good journey home. They have Les Barker to listen to en route. (those who haven't encountered Les Barker's poetry have missed out. He's a comic genius and his CDs are great fun.)
