The Flashing Blade

<lj user=the_gardender> just reminded me of this.

The song still sounds good even after all these years.

It was a totally forgettable children's TV show with a fantastic theme song whose words stay in the memory for decades.

Oh, *exactly* so! I remember that, basically for the theme song. I shall now have it in my head for the next six months....

I don't know about forgettable - we bought the DVD a few years back and it is rather fun.

It was totally memorable! My best friend was in love with François and I was in love with Guillot! And then there was the very resourceful lady-in-waiting who turned out to be an agent of Cardinal Richelieu! And the wily cleric Mazarin! And the meta bit at the end where the Mother Superior undercuts the message of the theme song by reproaching François for being a hot-headed young man who's always fighting for what he wants, which presumably means that the original French theme tune had very similar lyrics!

I do remember the theme tune, and have a vague memory of the program itself.

Some years ago, one of the Saturday morning kid's shows took edited bits of the show and over-dubbed them with a spoof script (apparently written by Russell T Davies).

One of the episodes can be found here:

Oh, and why do you think one of our cats (bred by someone else but we were allowed to name him) is Champion Valisa Flashing Blade?

You are absolutely right. I loved this as a kid, just for the theme tune. The episode content was far less interesting, but missing the theme tune was unforgivable.

Now this is really a great song! Pity, of course the series is not known here...I would enjoy it!:-)

I remember the theme, but nothing about the show! :-)

I'm surprised we've not seen a movie remake. Historical adventure escapade with a certain amount of tongue wedged firmly in cheek - it could work.

I loved this series as a kid.

I am pretty sure that it was re-shown on a saturday morning show in the late 80s but with a new voice track that was a spoof, intentionally hilarious and had little to do with the original script...

Oh yes, I remember this! It was on every summer holiday, but I never did see the last episode, since the Scottish school holidays ended before the English ones did. I'm guessing the good guys won!
