Random stuff
I don't post nearly as often as I used to, though I frequently comment on my friend's journals.
I think it's probably due to a combination of background stress, asthma and sciatica...
However, a new office chair with decent adjustment has made a noticeable impact on the sciatica, so that's good.
I'm going cold turkey on reading the news for a few days, and that's helping the stress a little.
I'd like to go cold turkey on Facebook, but I'm moderator for several groups, so I do need to check the posts.
The one on Morris history occasionally gets people trying to rehash arguments on blackface, but we've managed to keep it pretty much under control. The hard part is ensuring that polite and informative discussions on the subject are still allowed, while ruthlessly deleting any comments about people being either racist or pc (ie. staying strictly neutral apart from requiring views to be back up by historical documentation).
On the whole, it's a very polite community with some interesting discussions on a wide range of topics, which is reflected in the membership which is now over 700.
I've been doing a lot of gardening. I've got good neighbours on both sides, but one is short of time as she's caring for her mother, and the other is still a learner gardener.
So, I'm pottering about in both their gardens as well. When I've got spare bits of plants, I'm planting them next door in the borders, and in spite of the hot weather there's been a pretty good survival rate. The rain has helped a lot.

It has been such a weird time & as we become more accustomed to one thing another one grows. I hear you on news and stress. I gave up watching TV news years ago & have no regrets. I subscribe to the Guardian daily summary & occasionally select something for further reading.
Nice neighbours are such a blessing.

Polite communities with interesting discussions are a joy to be part of.
Great that you are enjoying the gardening and helping out the neighbours at the same time.

The main morris organisations no longer allow it.
the main problem is that most of the teams who blacked up had no idea of the origins of the custom. (it came from the minstrel shows) They just did it because it looked cool and got a really good audience response as it did give a very dramatic effect.
It was fun, and they liked the anonymity.
When they found that some people considered it racist, they were upset and some reacted badly.
Just to muddy the waters, Molly dancing has a genuine non-racist origin for blacking up. In East Anglia, the plough gangs blacked up to disguise themselves - Molly dancing came pretty close to 'demanding money with menaces'...
And some have tried to justify blackface for other traditions by appropriating the history of the plough gangs. It all gets very messy.
But nearly all of the teams that used to black up have now gone over to other face paint colours and designs.

The news cycle is so depressing, I gave up television years ago (no licence, can't watch telly = don't watch telly so I don't need a licence!). can't say I miss it... :)
I'm glad you're having a positive Facebook experience, I rarely post on mine either but I help run a few pages and groups so like you, I can't really go "cold turkey" for long. I'm glad your groups are generally civil, long may they stay that way!
My gardening is going well too, the weeds are doing very well this year! I'm growing lots in the polytunnel and trying out cucumbers this year. I did lots of soil work last winter so the beds are more productive now, and my pea-breeding projects are bearing fruit.
Take care, hope you have a lovely summer. :)
